The Shibs Cometh

Blog-o-sphere has been a bit silent as of late... so let's make some noise.

I was going to set out to write a profound diatribe on the implications of putting civil rights to a public vote.... but then I thought.... We rocked it, so drop some words on the ol blog.

A quick summary of the events tonight.. which you should all tune in to:

1) We rock Christian Radio if you just hit your pedal the right way.

2) The Shibs are clickin... better than I think we actually have before. New music is blastin out like you wouldn't believe... well you will believe... cause your gonna hear/see it.

3) The end of Put Your Hair Back Up will never be the same... now that I have the slivers out of my hair. Which is not back up.

4) I, personally, love making music... and don't do enough of it. Even playing every day... I always want more.. Greedy Bastard I am.

5) Harks is tearin up the weisenborg these days... and I bet you can't spell weisenborg either.

6) You all should head out and catch us tomorrow night at Babes on the West Side. Should be a great time.

Well, I should get back to my photo editing and enjoying a drink before I try to get some sleep. The ol work day calls, then an Ultimate Frisbee game at lunch, then a gig, then Chicago, then a Photoshoot on Sunday... then maybe a couple hours to relax and enjoy some football, before I have to get back to the 8 to 5 on Monday.

Yeah... I'm bored these days.

Til next time... Enjoy the ride... I am.

Lyrics and lyrics and more lyrics

Some people have been asking me for lyrics of our more recent songs...songs that aren't on To Each His Own.  So here you go...I'll get Ryan to post his soon.

Somersaults

Who are you guy doing somersaults all up in my room, who the hell are you
It means nothing it's got to mean something oh what's the use, these excuses are your truth

Turns out you were looking for something, turns out you got a whole lot of nothing

No need for complaining I saw it was raining oh coming down, but these drops won't hit the ground
Making my way out it is beyond doubt I'll be just fine, I'll even sign it on a dotted line

Turns out you were looking for something, turns out you got a whole lot of nothing
Turns out you were looking for something, turns out you got a whole lot of nothing

When the doors are all closed, and it's six in the morning, leave a light on for me
When there's nothing to say, and the tides have all changed, leave a light on for me

Coming back as a matter of fact oh you do it well, everyone's got a story to tell
I can't believe it I should've seen it staring right at me, it's my turn to disagree

Who are you guy doing somersaults all up in my room, who the hell are you

Down the Drain

You can keep your culture, just keep it to yourself
But you're just as two faced, as two faced as everyone else
Fixing all their problems, neglecting the one's you have inside
Never wanna face it, time to hit the bottle and hide

Now watch it as it's going down, oh now don't you make a sound, feel the room spin round and round
Tell them your book is clean, don't you tell them anything, to make them all think differently

You can keep your culture, just keep it yourself
Living day by day, in the shadows of somebody else
Poor man on the corner, reach in your pocket for some change
Toss him just a nickel, and watch it fall down the drain

Now watch it as it's going down, oh now don't you make a sound, heads and tails go round and round
Tell them your intentions were clean, don't you tell them anything, to make them all think differently

You can keep your culture, just keep it to yourself
You can keep you culture, just keep it to yourself

Now watch it as it's going down, oh now don't you make a sound, feel the room spin round and round
Tell them your book is clean, don't you tell them anything, to make them all think differently
Now watch it as it's going down, oh now don't you make a sound, heads and tails go round and round
Tell them your intentions were clean, don't you tell them anything, to make them all think differently

Steady Hands

And the soft embrace of a new handshake, I like it too, steady hands

You know what the deal is, I can tell by the look in your eyes
The falling traps are gone no appealing, don't you act like you're so surprised

And you'll see the writing on the walls, have some kind words for you
Blank stare, standing tall, steady hands, a brief calmness ensues

Time to show you the picture, as the tears roll down your face
Pleaing and asking for forgiveness, hope this all puts you in your place

And you'll hear the the words from my mouth, have some kind words for you
Looking down, hunched over, shaky hands, it's all starting to show through

And the soft embrace of a new handshake, I like it too, steady hands

And you'll see the writing on the walls, have some kind words for you
Blank stare, standing tall, steady hands, a brief calmness ensues
And you'll hear the the words from my mouth, have some kind words for you
Looking down, hunched over, shaky hands, it's all starting to show through

That's all for now...hope you like them!

Thanks be to Shibs

Holla y'all.....

So yep... that just happened... again.

Like Andy... been a while since I blogged. Here is the science all short and sweet with flowery language all withheld.

Notes from the Adams Reception:

Colin can rock (duh)... Subatomic rock.... and can rock with another drummer....

"DUDE... you fu*kers sound just like Always Sunny" -- bartender at the reception

"People were asking if that was really a wedding reception because the party was so cool it didn't seem like they just got married"

12 people on stage... no one knowing the song, where it was to go... but in the end... we all put the load back on me (reference to The Weight by The Band which was played). I hoped to take a rock band, a folk/indy/punk/shibs band, a heavy rock band all of which could play outside of themselves, put them in a place where we could play without bounds and see what came out. I think it worked. And if your down, I'm down... and want to do it again.

Random dude wedding crashing, helped himself to cake...smoked a bud on the dance floor, and left....

15 minute Black Majik Woman with THE Jon French.

Freedom and Oceanview descending to Jam land with Brian Moll Ripping it up.

Sympathy for the Devil being learned and resulting in a 20 minute jam.

Can't you see -> Day man -> Smoke 2 Joints -> Mouse freestyle rap ->band solos (matt included) -> Can't you see

Stormy Monday being played in the wrong Key... But thanks to learning minors, the blond guy made it happen with only 2 people hearing the difference.

and in the end... when it's all over... I'm blessed with a wife that believes in me, believes in The Shibs and is in the same level of amazement over how talented you guys are.

So, before I retire tonight... I have to say, that I have about 10 more points that I can drop, but need some sleep. I do know though that it as been really tough for your resident geek harp player to miss a couple of gigs. I can say additionally, that this band, and the people that were at the reception this weekend... are my true family. Although I may miss a party or two... it doesn't mean that I wanted to be somewhere else... only that I had no choice but to be somewhere else.

Thank you guys for rockin out last night. It's been a wild ride.... and I'm sure there's more to come... I'll make it up to you guys for sure...

I'm out like a vinyl jacket....

Butter...NUTS

Oh hello. Blogging for the first time in ages. Felt obligated to after the events that took place on Friday, Aug. 14th in a little place called Butternut, Wisconsin. First things first, about 5 minutes before we got to The Butternut KK (Kountry Klub), I was telling the guys a story of how my mom didn't know one of my good friends' (Koontz) first name. She guessed Roger of all names, which I thought was hilarious. Why Roger? The youngest guy I can think of named Roger is Roger Clemens the baseball player, and he's over 40 now. Anyways, she went with Roger. So we pull up to the place and what is the owner's name...you guessed it...Roger. Pretty funny stuff...probably a lame story retold as I just did...guess you just had to be there.

That said, a lot of the stories and anecdotes that we share are much better when experienced in person. I don't know how many times I've heard Colin say..."I wish someone else was here right to see this cause nobody's gonna believe it."

Back to Butternut. We are informed that we will be playing outside underneath a tent, and that the cabin that we are supposed to stay in is rented out, so the place got us a room "down the street" at the Park Falls Motel. The lady handed us our room key, which was an actual key. No key card, and actual real life key. Rule #1...never stay in a motel/hotel/resort that still uses an actual key to open a room. We decided to go "down the street" (which is actually like 5 minutes away) to the motel to settle in, but went the wrong way, then plugged "Park Falls Motel" into the GPS, and eventually found it. What a gem of a place. Reminded me of a Vegas Casino...Nope no it didn't.

First thing we notice is a sign in the bathroom that says something like..."Hunters...please don't clean your birds in the sink. If you need to clean your birds, I will bring you a bucket of water." -Sandy. Apparently they are having septic issues because people are cleaning their birds in the sink...check please. We fill up the fridge with beer and head back to Butternut.

The show...first set...weird. Good news, free pitches for the band and $1 shots. Rule #2...if you are in a weird place for the first time...just get drunk. Second set...better...but really buggy. Like thousands of gnats and mosquitoes...no lie. The people from Alaska were digging us, and the Sun Prairie folks were real real nice. After the show, we all realize that we are hungry. We ask about food in the area...they laugh at us. The owner cooked us a pizza which was delicious and lifesaving to say the least.

We got back to the motel around 1am???, played some Zoom Schwarts...a game JB introduced to us years ago. After multiple rounds, Colin volunteers and agrees to run around the parking lot in a circle while we (myself, JB, and Ryan) try to hit him with rocks. Only rule was no head shots. We hit him a couple times, and I believe it was Ryan who threw one after Colin said stop and hit him in the head. He was alright though.

I had no idea what time it was now, but it was time for bed. We signed the guestbook, and went to the room. I leave you with our entries:

Great Bar-The Sharp & Harkins Band (written by JB)
*Note: We never went into the motel bar, it wasn't open

Good bar, wish I could've seen it open (or something like that, it wasn't english though)-C Stache McGraf (Colin)

Dear Sandy,
Oh herro. I like what you've done with the place. It reminds me of a Vegas Casino.
Love, Ryan Harkins (written by me)

A normal Friday night!

To all my fans

What's up everyone? Thought I'd come on and post something for all of my fans...haha...jk. Just got back into town, and of course it is cold and rainy. I think it's safe to say that this tour didn't exactly live up to our expectations. The highlights: Eddie's Attic Open Mic and the Savannah late night jam session with some folks from Virginia Tech. On that note, if those people somehow someway stumble upon this blog, please send us the video from the jam...that would be cool to see. I was under the weather for most of this tour, which was not fun. I slept a lot...even more than usual. However, I am feeling much better now.

Learned a couple of things on this tour.
1. Contrary to popular belief, I can and did rock a flannel for much of the tour.
2. Somersaults, the newest song I wrote, is legit.
3. Mike can drive for 9 hours straight no problem.
4. Having two cartons of smokes at your disposal makes you smoke even more than normal.
5. Watch your back, especially if you are a dude, if you ever go to Greenville, Alabama.

That's about it. Keep these things in mind...and we'll all be alright.

Pirates

This trip has been pretty nuts really.  Friday night we played in a Cage, literally.  Lots of people at that show in Evansville, IN, but the last band's (Last Hour) drummer screwed us on $.  So that is not cool.  The other guys in the band were super nice and cool...the drummer is a tool.

Saturday was Sonny's Brick Oven Pizza in Spartanburg, SC.  Great place, but sort of a slow night.  Either way, the folks there were cool.

No show, so we drove to the Ocean.  Mouse hooked us up with a hotel, which was surrounded by a local marina.  We checked out all the awesome yachts people had parked there.  Then commandeered a raft for a cruise down the channel. Not sure what inspired Sunday nights activities, as we took the night to hang out in Charleston SC.  Maybe it was the news story of the Somali pirates, maybe it was miller light.

Played Eddie's Attic in Decatur, GA last night for an open mic competition thing.  Made it to the finals, so that is good stuff.

There is a long hard road.......

Hola my friends....

Wow, what a couple of days. I really don't know what to say after everything that has gone down. But I will drop some werds all short and sweet, cause I'm tired, lil drunk, and worried about my 9 to 5 gig....

So this is the short post... look for more tomorrow night... but I have some thoughts in brief that I must share....

We played Eddie's Attic tonight... A legendary venue where the best of the very very very very best walk the land. Musicians that keep me in awe, of the craft I dream of being a part of.

The Shibs had a slot to play.... only 2 songs.... which is all you get... and only 3 members. So last night we talked it over and the guys agreed that Harks, Andy, and I would walk the walk. It was never just the 3 of us playing cause in my mind, we are always a team, but wow. Just wow. I forever will tip my hat to the entire band... the pleasure and honor is mine jamming with these guys... never the less...

a) We made the finals. We weren't selected as the winner, but we made the finals.
b) The audio will be posted shortly
c) How does one get as lucky as this. Rauk.

Never the less... Sleepy time for mouse.... But what a ride for the Shibs... more to follow....
including pics...

Mouse

PS: The "blackest" white guy you will ever see.... Comment from Hurley, a black woman in the crowd after we jammed.

PPS How does one accept the above comment... and being told that you have the most passionate, blackest soul I have ever seen... Thank you doesn't work :)

PPPS: For those that are religious.... Send Prayers out to Darren Hagen, a friend of mine that was hurt badly in a Sprint Car wreck at Eldora. We all take our rides....

Day 2, which follows Day 1

Holla,

Your resident harp player here... not able to sleep, so droppin some werds on the blog. I don't know why I'm not droppin over... Work had me up for 40 plus hours consecutive before I headed out on this trip, but never the less I'm here.

Major thanks out to the new Wifey... Jillian. Still awesome to say "wife" Jillian.. and yes I tied the knot. I never thought it would change things but it has, shifting my perceptions on things, and re-lighting the fire that was still burning, but now more focused. Scared yet? I am. In that I'm going to kick some ash kinda way...

So to catch you up on things from the view of the mouse... Got married, want spring, playing congas more, have the racing bug rather bad, taking some amazing pics, focused more, learning advanced management skillz, and trying to deciede what mountain to climb next. Rauk.

The shibs are on tour. The counts right now...
Colin 2 for 2 with major wounds
Burrito count: 2
Strip club like venues 1
Trailer Park Boys DVD's viewed: 3
Cop's that we thought were going to bust us: 1
Guys' in wierd liquor stores that resemble giant blue berries: 1
Smells that induce nausea in normal people, but were created by people: 3.14

Ok. First night was Georgio's. Great venue, cool peeps, but you could tell they didn't have live music much. People would not move so we could set up and despite the coolness of McPhil rollin down and Jillian giving me a ride to the gig (worked too long and would have missed the entire tour otherwise) (best wife eva?) it just seemed like the vibe wasn't there. Tons of people, great bar, awesome drinks, but crowd interaction wise it seemed flat. Regardless we rocked hard and Andy is writing some killer tunes. Tour brings a band tighter and SommerSalt (speeled wrong for humor effect) rocks.

Tonight was umm... wierd. The Cage was the venue and umm well err Fauk It .. Here:

So yeah.. Unique. And I will likely leave it at that. Unique.

We were thinking of starting our own wall o shame for places that are not all that band kind. Now don't get me wrong. Karen was a saint and it was a unique cool place to play, but we have our reasons that's for sure.

Well long drive ahead tomorrow. For those that are following this, and work at a company that shall not be named that I'm employed at, please do not share that I am on the road. I'm just taking a week away to gather my thoughts and relax, not travel the country, write drivel on the internet at odd hours, and rock out with some of the best musicians a guy could ask to rauk out with. Remeber, I'm married and settled down now...

Song done on blog 1... Time to get some work done while the guys sleep... and yes I am doing real work for the company that shall not be named...

Be safe and take care.

Til next time.....

PS Picks of the tour.... and yes I will drop this link like it's hot quite often...

Crystal Meth

Ha.. not what you think

Tonight we played Crystal Lake, Illinois, not far from where I lived not too long ago on the northside of Chicago.  Right along the good 'ol Metra line.  Georgio's Pizza has good food for sure.  The place was so packed when we arrived that we had to start quite a bit late.  But hey, busy is a good thing.  Nice young crowd.   I don't think they are used to having bands, but we went over well to those willing to listen.  Kyle, the manager, is good shit and I think we'll hit up Georgio's again.

This video is completely unrelated to anything.  Colin had a funny freestyle in a South Dakota hotel, which was mostly about JB's new facial hair...."weird beard."  Love it

Getting toasted with Chuck

So for those who do not know, we just got back from a mini tour that brought us to places in South Dakota, Nebraska, and Minnesota...pretty exciting stuff. I will go day by day in describing the events that took place within the five day trip, and then give you some parting thoughts of the trip as a whole. Enjoy!

Day 1 (Wednesday March 4th)

Day one brought us to the beautiful town of Harrisburg, South Dakota, which was about 10 miles away from our hotel in Sioux Falls. We played at a place called the Phoenix Lounge, one of two bars in the town...awesome! Couple of things about the show and then I will move on:

1. Smokiest bar I've ever been to
2. Amazing sound and stage
3. Thank God there was a pool league going on

Sold some CD's and Tees, signed a poster for a guy that made a bar in his basement called "The Wreck Room." Definitely hope he put that thing up right next to the Jeff Gordon poster. After we got back to the hotel in Sioux Falls, we ventured out to a "casino" called the Hole In The Wall Gaming Parlor. It was just a small room with 10 machines that you can find in pretty much any bar or bowling alley in Wisconsin. JB and I came out ahead while Colin and Harkins lost a few bucks...all in all a good time. Beat Colin in a game of pool before we left the hotel. One last note about day one...Thanks Sheraton!

Day 2 (Thursday March 5th)

Made it into Omaha, Nebraska quite early, and decided to load in all of our equipment right away. Played at a Pizza Parlor call PS Collective. Nothing good to say here. If it weren't for a group of people that Colin recruited from Creighton University, nobody would've been there. I did meet a girl named Jade Sharp who turned out to be my cousin...not. But we did have the same last name. Last thing...a big thanks to Jason (Ryan's cousin) for picking up our bill...what a nice guy.

Day 3 and 4 (Friday March 6th-Saturday March 7th)

Day three brought us to the thriving metropolis of Aberdeen, South Dakota. This was the first of two days playing at the same venue in Aberdeen. We got to the venue which was called New York New York, and met the owners Rick and Nicki. Within 10 minutes of meeting them, Rick offered to give us the key and let us stay in the office above the bar for the next two nights. Apparently there was both State Boy's Basketball and a huge Bowling tourney in Aberdeen over the weekend, and all hotels in the city were full.

Anyways, we had to play acoustic at New York New York. In part because it was an older crowd, and in part because it really isn't a music venue that is prepared to have amps and such. Playing acoustic was definitely a different feel, but it turned out alright for us. I had a good time. Met a bunch of interesting and fun people, especially Chuck, Carrie, and Roxy. Chuck was a regular at New York New York, probably around 60 years old, and has a tendency of getting a little toasted. Chuck had plenty of stories to tell us over the course of two days...some of which left all of us on the verge of peeing our pants. There should be some sort of reality TV show documenting Chuck's Life at New York New York...it would be a hit. Had fun getting toasted with Chuck.

Moving on, sleeping above a bar is not as glamorous as it may seem. Brushing your teeth in a bar bathroom probably isn't too healthy nor is it appealing, and the lack of shower left us all looking and smelling good...but the stay was free so who are we to complain. Actually got to shower on our way our out of Aberdeen...and there is a story behind this one. Carrie, one of the bartenders/servers at New York New York also works as a maid at the local Super 8 Motel. She told us to call her on our way out of town, and she would get us into one of the rooms she was cleaning so we could all shower. And that is exactly what we did. Thanks Carrie and thanks Super 8. Quite an experience.

Special thanks to Rick and Nicki...both extremely nice people. And to the groups of younger peeps that came in to see us after seeing us in the local newspaper...advertising does work.

Day 5 (Sunday March 8th)

Onto St. Paul, Minnesota to play at Big V's Saloon on a Sunday night! Not gonna lie, by this time, I think we were all a little burnt out. My girlfriend Kristy is from the area, so she told some people about the show. I was really hoping to go on stage around 9:30 pm so that Bruce and Bea(Kristy's Dad and Uncle) and a group of Kristy's friends (Gina, Cara, Angie, and Garrett) could all see us play. Well we ended up going on around midnight...but Gina, Cara, and Angie stayed. Thank God they did because they were the only three people in the bar. And thanks Gina and Cara for giving us a place to stay...hope we weren't too much of a hassle.

In summary, the trip was quite odd to say the least. I did a lot of sleeping...which isn't really anything new for me...but there wasn't much else to do. Don't really plan on going to South Dakota or Nebraska anytime in the near future. Lastly, sorry if this was boring...but that's actually quite fitting. It is what it is.

NYC, Majestic, and me

Holla y'all,

I haven't blogged for NYC, nor have I been a good boy in terms of droppin words on ya.. so I thought I would catch up with you all quick like tonight.

So the trip to NYC was bitter sweet. Cleveland was kewl because of the fam coming to catch us... Grandma was amazing but I think I said that... Musicians take heed... Wilberts will RIP YOU OFF.

PA was amazing. The people, the place (Local Beat) the jam. Like previous blogs have said... 4 encores... need I say more. I tip my hat and look forward to being back there again.

NYC... What can you say. I really can't say anything. But you know I will :)

The last year or so has been amazing. On many many levels. Fat Todd speaks of the family... Harks speaks of the un-spoken family. I only hope to add to that. With all things considered, this ride for me started with a Moose-A-plooza, a recording session, and a great group of guys. Next time I open my eyes, I'm staring at ground zero, stepping on a stage(s) that I only dream of, and makin music with some of the best song writers, musicians, percussionists around.

Amazed and Humbled... Period.

I know I write alot about my pops, almost to the point of wierd obsession... but if you knew Rabbit when he was around, you know why he plays such a role in my soul these days. He was the last to leave the bar and the first to boo when the band stopped... right next to me for the whole ride... In his dying days he told me to get the fuck out of race cars and start playing music... Which leads me to the ironic and soul clinching twist to NYC. Ryan Sharp got signed up for the open jam, which I was just gonna go play some blues but after talking to Harks he was in... Harks and I debuted a new song.. and rocked Folsom hard. Stuff harp player dreams are made of... 1 guitar and a dumb guy with a harp... Lovin it. Afterward I got the guts up to ask Bryan (guy hosting the jam and one HELLUVA guitar player) if I could jam one song with him... Hell I'm in NYC, this guy rocks the blues licks and I was a touch feelin it :) only other time I asked that of anyone was a time at Tully's II when Dad was still around... wanted to hear Stormy Monday with Cool Front... his fav... and thanks to the Front, he got to hear it. Generally I have 3 rules to my playing. 1) Never assume you are going to play. 2) Never invite yourself up. 3) don't play if you are going to make the band sound like shit... But I digress.. I asked to jam with these guys and they said well likely not going to do little wing but here's a little something. They started rocking and what happened was..... Stormy Monday. Song Done. Somewhere he smiles.

With all this blabber said, and all these useless words, every night every one of us throws our souls to the wind, hopeing that someone catches us, feels us, believes like we do, that you can feel the joy and the pain that comes from our drums, our bass, our guitars, our voices, and our harp... and just for a minute you forget about everything, tomorrow, today, yesterday, and just enjoy the ride.... I know I am... and I'm humbled to be a part of it.... Thanks Shibs

Til next time.....

Artists

Pursuing something that is not the norm, something that reaches for a deeper meaning, taking chances, that is what artists do.   Just checked out Mike Droho and the Soundshaker tonight at the High Noon Saloon in Madison...good friends of ours.  And last night we played the Majestic Theatre (which is a sweet place!) with Lucas Cates Band.

Artists do what they do because it is fulfilling in a way that perhaps nothing else can be.  So on some level, no matter what their deal, there is a connectedness between artists.  That in itself is fulfilling.  I guess no matter what you do in life, the mutual respect and acknowledgement of one anothers pursuits is, in itself, rewarding.

See you at Luckys on Saturday, feb 28th

East to NYC

PA
The Shibs played a new venue in New Cumberland, PA called The Local Beat.  The place and the people are awesome.  It is a place created by artists and musicians for people who really dig the arts scene.  Joe, the owner, is a musician and I think that place will be alive and well when we swing through PA again.  The feel of the show was pretty awesome for us, because everyone was hanging on every note.  Four encores....thanks Joe, Rebbecca, and everyone else at The Local Beat.

NYC
First show was decent, just a bit quiet for a 7pm set.  But Arlene's Grocery is sort of NYC underground, and the whole neighborhood was bustling a couple hours later.  Adrian Grenier, that is the actor from Entourage that was at Arlene's Grocery.  NYC is awesome because it seems like no matter where you are, or what time you are there, there are always people around.  I love cities for that reason; it always feels like you are in the midst of something that is going on.

I've gotta second Andy on the ground zero stuff.  We didn't even realize where we were staying, then we basically walked right into the fences at ground zero.  Crazy.  Just stood there for a while staring, and thinking it all over.  Not a lot to see at the site, but the gravity of  9/11 sure can be felt.

Kenny's Castaways was an awesome show.  The Shibs had a good set, and then there was an open mic for about 8 hours after.  So, we got to hang out with a lot of people, musicians, and some old friends from Wisconsin.  At about 3am, Mouse and I jumped on stage again to debut a new Shibs tune, and rock some Folsom Prison too.

NYC...we'll be back soon!

1 block AWAY...

This is Andy...in New York City...blogging again for the first time in awhile. I've never been in NYC before, and so far I like it. Lots of big buildings yes...although the Statue of Liberty was smaller than I thought it would be. A lot of traffic and a lot of people in this city. I'll speak little about the gig and a lot about what went down tonight.

Show was cool...it was at Arlene's Grocery...which is a music venue and not a grocery store if you're wondering. We got a live CD...turned out alright...I was stoked to hear the new song "Steady Hands" live. The venue was nice...if only we would've played an hour later than we did...there would've been a hundred more people there. Also, saw an actor from the show Entourage at the show. He's the main actor in the show...Adrian something...his last name escapes me right now. Pretty cool stuff.

OK...enough about the show. We are staying in a hotel a block away from the World Trade Center Site...and a block away from Wall Street. It's actually unreal. I almost started crying tonight when I saw the void there. If you haven't been out here..do it...it's amazing. And when you see where the WTC used to be...you can't help but to think about the one's that you love. I thought about my immediate family right away...Dad, mom, Ryan, Josh, and Jasmine...and especially my best friend and girlfriend Kristy.

I then thought about the band...and to all of you who don't know or don't get it...it's actually like a second family. You spend so much time with these guys...it has to be like a family. So it was nice seeing what I saw tonight with all of them. I think we will go back again tomorrow to see it in the daytime. I love my life at home with my family, but I love experiencing new places and meeting new people everywhere we go. But they are the people who support me most...so they make it possible. Bottom line...I love going to a city I've never been to before, trying to play the best I can in front of people I've never met before, and hoping they like what they hear. That's what I love doing...I actually love it. It's an amazing feeling. Always keeps you out of your comfort zone. I suggest doing something like this yourself...even if it's something completely different from music.

On the road again "to the tune of canned heat"

So short blog session... I'm tired and the rest of the guys are snoozin... well trying to.

Last night was awesome... well umm gig wise awesome but to my band friends... Wilberts is shady... but fam-in-laws were in the house and Grandma was a trooper...

The guys were super cool dealing with me and watching the Chili bowl. I know they are not down with the racing gig... but hey.... they are bomb ash musicians...

Tonight was amazing. People brought a ton of merch, wouldn't let us get off the stage, and for this guy reminded me of why pops said play some music...

Shots to follow, music to follow.. and NYC tomorrow night....

It's all about the ride and we are all still in it....

Stay safe for now....

New Year, New Name, and Some Sweet Gigs In the Book

Werd...

Been a long while since some science was dropped in ye ol blog here, so I thought I would give the low down to all the faith followers (now in the thousands haha).

Well, The Shibs rocked the hell out of Stella's last night. Andy's new song rocks so hard your face will melt. I never understood that saying, but all the kewl kids tell me that is good. *shrug* Steady Hands. I've been blessed to play with alot of musicans over the years, but to come up with a song on Tuesday, run through it only a handful of times, then rock it out on Friday night is just awesome.

After 4 months of trying, I've learned to circular breathe which allows me to play the didj without ever stopping to breathe. Really screws with your head, as you know you need to be breathing out to make sound out of the didj, yet your breathing in while doing it. Wierd. Never the less, the didj made the debut last night and people totally dug it, I personally think they just dug Andy's song, but I get to cross the "play an aborginal instument in a modern band" goal off the list.

Couple other things to note....

1) I'm working on all the photos from tour and over the last couple of gigs of 08. I'll get them to Hark this week so y'all can check em out... Finally.

2) The lay off of not playing for a couple of weeks was oddly brutal. You get used to rockin out and when you can't, creative energies have to go elsewhere. Let's just say the dog has some sweet knitted booties. Well not really, but I should just stick to rockin out.

3) Big stuff comin down the pipe in 09 for the Shibs. Next gig will be on the Urban Theater TV show, and we will be walkin on stage at the Majestic Theater in short order.... what a ride.. Can't wait.

Well I hope you all are having a good year so far... After all, on the 20th our 8 year nightmare was over, doesn't mean he is perfect, but the restoration of law and the constitution was long overdue.... indictments anyone?

Barak n Roll y'all...

Til Next time....
